FAQs
Meeting School Food Trust Requirements
Q. Can your products be served in schools?
A. Yes, subject to certain regulations based on type of food, for example burgers can only be served once a fortnight and vegetables need to be on offer daily.
Q. How do I know if your products meet the new nutrient based regulations?
A. The regulations apply to the whole menu, not individual foods. Therefore depending on what other foods are on offer Birds Eye Food Service range can provide the base for a variety of school lunches to satisfy the regulations.
Q. Can your products help me deliver a compliant menu?
A. Yes. We can provide all the information you need to do the analysis of your menu.
Q. Do your products meet TNS? (Target Nutrient Specifications)
A. TNS are voluntary guidelines meant as a reference tool to help you put together a compliant menu. They set target nutrient levels for specific products rather than whole menus. The most important element in planning school menus lies in meeting the overall nutritional standards set for full meals and menus. The table below summarises where our products sit in relation to the TNS as at June 2008:
